Dr. Montessi was born and raised in Texas (Arlington and the Dallas- Ft. Worth area). Shortly after high school she joined the U.S. Coast Guard and honorably served our country for 10 years. She was stationed on ships that deployed for two months at a time conducting federal maritime law enforcement, drug interdiction, and migrant repatriation. Dr. Montessi was also stationed on the coasts of Virginia and North Carolina running search and rescue missions as well as law enforcement duties. While still on active duty, Dr. Montessi began undergraduate classes, eventually transitioning to full-time studies upon separation from military service.
Dr. Montessi attended Christopher Newport University in Virginia and the University of South Florida. She earned her BS degree in biology from the University of South Florida. Dr. Montessi worked as a veterinary technician for four years before attending veterinary school where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida.
Dr. Montessi’s husband is a Chief Warrant Officer in the U.S. Coast Guard and has been honorably serving for 20 years. Their family includes a daughter and son, two dogs, and two cats. Dr. Montessi loves spending time with her family, building and shooting firearms as well as discovering and listening to music.
Her special interests include emergency and critical care, soft tissue surgery, and feline medicine.
